Teatro de Essências

This presentation was real magic, not just the slight of hand type of magic but the special living quality kind of magic. With our friends in Brazil we created a presentation that generated a presence that uplifted and inspired everyone involved as much as the audience. The intent within this theatre piece was to create a perspective out through the eyes of innocence with the "Fool" becoming a metaphor to do with staying open to the essence journey of life. The phrase "knowing I am a fool puts me closer to God" became the motto for this gathering. Their is nothing predictable about the future because it's unknown. It's only the over riding gravity and pull of the past and it's patterns that are predictable. The "Fool" is often depicted as a keeper of wisdom because of it's childlike innocence and innate ability to live in the present moment with a trust in the unknown. So the Motto became an opportunity to centre with one another in a more natural and ego less (less self centred) state. Everyone felt the possibility to be a part of something bigger than themselves, no stars, no status, just people sharing in the joy of creating and being connected to something bigger than the personal feeling. A bigger love story between the person and their essence life within and how they resonate with others as a sameness. This theatre and the reasons behind it's gathering are connected to an essential core of work to gather out from in a highly creative way. It was aimed at creating a safe environment to provide a living theatrical expression of natural human qualities felt, valued and shared. There are many natural human qualities that look for a theatre to appear in - we the human are designed to be that very Theatre.

Magic Circus TV

Magic Circus TV is a project I had the pleasure of working on recently in Geneva. Children from all over Europe came together under the direction of Damien Ottet to create a fantastic presentation called the magic Circus, which was a celebration of the circus arts. This event was unique in that it had been purposefully structured to leave out the element of competition between the young participants. It was refreshing to see this magic space created because of the absence of competition. So many TV talent shows or festivals of the arts have become over competitive which places the participants and those witnessing in the position of becoming over critical and judgemental upon them selves and each other. This produces polarisation and devision between people and places us in an animal fight or flight response rather than in celebrating the arts and creativity. I have come to see that highly competitive environments can be corrosive and very limiting to the unique creative spirit of an individual. It can also limit the intelligence of the audience as it offers then such a personalised and limited perspective to watch the arts through. By the simple absence of competition these children were more open and able to express other natural human qualities like warmth, companionship, generosity, joy, respect, towards one another, because they could feel proud that they were all a part of something great together. This was heartwarming to see and I see it as being very progressive because it created a safer and more supportive environment for these youngsters. I thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone on this project and I would like to acknowledge Damien Ottet for his awareness in creating a magical and creative space for those young people to gather around and share what they enjoy together without competition. The show was broadcast on Christmas day across Europe but you can see some pictures at the Magic Circus site www.magic-circus-show.tv
